An age and type of India understood 'Pop' music from Michael Jackson. He was the man who introduced western music to the alleys of DDA flats where bourgeosie ideas of Western music were still soundlessly alien. He was subaltern in more ways than one.
I studied in a convent and there was always a divide as to people who 'sang' Jackson and those who chose not to. He was the rebel, the troubled artiste, and a man who forgot what he stood for after he achieved everything. But inspite and despite all of it for many Indians including me- He was the first relatable voice in POP music.
